Finnish Altia – Liqour Market Leader – upgrades Brand Survey Reporting with Dapresy
November 30th 2009
Finnish Altia Corporation, with brands such as Jack Daniels, Koskenkorva and Grönstedts, upgrades its use of Dapresy’s Reporting Platform as new brands and markets are being included in corporate Brand Surveys.
Altia’s survey results, previously presented via static tables and charts, are used by a growing number of Brand and Product Managers. As new markets and brands are being included, there is an increasing demand for customized reports, fitting each Brand Manager’s needs and timeline. With the Dapresy platform users can now conveniently analyze different survey results online and directly copy and paste graphs or tables into their own presentations.
The most recent market addition is Estonia, where brands such as Koskenkorva and Saremaa are compared with competition. Including Estonia, close to 30 Product Managers in the Nordic and Baltic countries are relying on the survey results to be able to monitor the positions of both own and competing brands. From now on all survey reports are produced and presented trough Dapresy’s reporting system in order to streamline the information flow and better adapt results to user needs.
Louise Eriksson, Research Manager at Altia, got to know Dapresy’s web-based systems at her previous employer, Unilever, prior to now implementing them at Altia. “Product Managers have neither time nor energy to place a request with the Research Department which then must contact the survey provider to get a requested graph. Hence I am very happy with the new Dapresy solution, giving Product Managers themselves, whenever or wherever they are, a direct ‘Brand Health Check’ option”.

New Public Reporting technology for Swedish PTS
November 20th 2009PTS, The Swedish Post and Telecom Agency, is now using technology from Dapresy AB to publish the results of “Individundersökningen 2009” - an Annual Survey of the Public's views on Telecom and Broadband operators in Sweden.
The technology offers new opportunities for vital-importance Public Authorities. They can now offer journalists, researchers as well as the Public in general, individual and direct access to the results. Through the Research Portal at PTS’s website, users can, on their own, explore various parts of the database, without knowledge of, or access to, traditional statistical software. "The new technology is part of our effort to increase user-friendliness for the Public," says Mattias Viklund, Market Analysis Director at PTS.
The Chart & Table tool has advanced features, such as comparison of responses among different target groups, questions, time/chart-type options, and more. Results can be exported into PowerPoint or Excel formats, or e-mailed.
In the past, PTS analysts have spent a lot of time on manual creation of tables and graphs for Researchers, Students and Media. "Now the end-users can do this themselves, which means that we at PTS can concentrate on more advanced issues," says Pamela Davidsson, analyst at PTS.
Torbjörn Andersson, CEO, Dapresy: "The number of individual reports should not determine costs or resource allocation. We have been streamlining production and distribution processes for private Market Research firms for many years and we find it gratifying to see that also Government Agencies can now take advantage of the benefits we offer".
The development of the Survey Portal is a result of the strategic cooperation between Action Dialog Partner and Dapresy initiated in October 2008.

Dapresy: A new Market Research Paradigm
March 18th 2009Download as pdf: Dapresy: A new Market Research Paradigm
Background – Dapresy’s Software Platform
Dapresy has been active in the field of Market Research reporting and distribution for more than 10 years. We have accomplished more than 1000 projects, which gives us the possibility to identify, from the end-user perspective, a number of common success denominators – as well as the opportunity to recognise a number of common characteristics for not-sosuccessful projects.
Based on these findings we have created a Research Platform, building on a structure that optimises customer benefits. In outline our model consists of assembling all Market Research projects [for a customer] into one database from which, applying state-of-the-art techniques, we generate reports on the web or in Excel/PowerPoint formats. As required, the reports can be based on interactive and individual designs as well as on data mining.
In parallel with this implementation, the customer continues to work with existing consultants/providers when it comes to data collection, questionnaire design and report contents.
Success Conclusions
Conclusion 1 – Maximise Competition benefits
Market Research end-users will get the most out of their research installations if they can take a more active and vigorous control over the research process without therefore increasing internal workloads, responsibility or risk.
Briefly, a traditional research project consists of a package containing:
Storing all research projects on Dapresy’s central platform makes it possible to procure various project components separately and from different suppliers.
In practice this is achieved by introducing a number of uncomplicated steps, typically transpiring as follows:
- A consultant (or the client) stores project-relevant questions in the Dapresy Platform library, mapping those tables and charts that shall emerge as based on these questions.
- The Dapresy Platform generates a so called Data Map and a (Word-based) questionnaire to be used
- as an RFP (request for proposals) specification in data collection procurement situations and
- as specification for how collected research data shall be delivered into the Dapresy Platform
- Upon completion of the data collection process (through web interviews, telephone interviews, face-to-face, surface mail, etc.) data is uploaded into the Dapresy Platform, using pre-specified formats (as per Step 2.b.).
- With data stored in the Dapresy Platform, report retrieval is now possible, using the mapping specifications developed in Step 1.
Being able to issue proposal or delivery requests for specific and well defined delivery areas increases the number of relevant potential suppliers. The very concrete specification level also allows bidders to return very accurate proposals for the core data collection activity. Moreover, the need for offering – traditionally quite expensive – report-building is eliminated since this task is handled, in real-time, by the Dapresy Platform’s report engine.
Conclusion 2 – Enable an Ad-Hoc-to-Tracking progression
In MR history successful corporations have had enough financial strength to continuously measure (“track”) research results on an on-going basis, with weekly or monthly reporting. Constant access to updated research information has made it possible to create organisations that always take decisions on a consistently refreshed information base.
The challenges here are two:
- Costs: continuous measuring is obviously more expensive than tracking once or twice per year
- Report production quality – in itself another cost driver – with reports typically created in Excel for transformation into PowerPoint slides. Moreover, dependency on individual staff members produces quality variations over time.
Using Dapresy’s Platform makes it possible to switch from Ad Hoc, one-time measuring into tracking-mode assessments – at no cost increase. The explanation: Reduced data collection costs as per Conclusion 1 above plus the fact that the report creation workload remains the same, irrespective of report frequency. In other words: as soon as new data has arrived onto the Dapresy Platform, the system produces those reports that are pre-specified for the project at hand. PowerPoint reports with, say, 100 slides will thus be created in a matter of seconds as soon as new input is available on the Platform.
Conclusion 3 – Create personal user reports
By tradition, Market Research processes have had limited possibilities to adapt output to end-users on an individual and personalised basis. Primarily this depends on the high costs involved with each extra uniquely designed report in principle increasing the cost in a way that is directly proportional to the number of reports. At the same time it is well recognised that those corporations that have in fact tailored their reports to fit individual end-users have indeed succeeded in creating a decision-base that eliminates unnecessary information to the proven benefit of being able to focus on core issues.
Using Dapresy’s Platform eliminates the extra costs involved in adapting frequently updated reports to fit the individual end-user. In practice this is done by creating a Master Template containing all pre-specified questions and their relevant graphical templates. A central coordinator is then able to map relevant data into personal reports, allowing the Dapresy Platform to perform the individual creation and distribution required.
Conclusion 4 – Enable efficient Data Mining
A frequent report receiver challenge is the need to draw in-depth conclusions from the information presented. Typically, research reports are delivered in fixed formats with answers given per segment(s) and/or per background variable(s). Should the report receiver need additional detailed information such as “What answers have city-living women, aged 15-45, who recently bought shampoo given to a particular question”, this means digging for supplementary reports. Such a loop or process is time-consuming, potentially restricting professional decision behaviour in that decisions may not be based on the total decision base but just on a not-enough-detailed part of it. Obviously, erroneous decisions may be the end result.
Using the Dapresy Platform gives report receivers the option of creating own reports focused on own target groups. These reports can then be saved as “Favourites” – for personal use or shared corporate-wide. For us this is Web 2.0: Corporate staff being in control of the means and authorisation to create own reports as needed. Sharing these reports, given a wider operational benefit, within the own organisation follows without any extra efforts. Our model for generating own reports based on simple interfaces and not requiring prior IT knowledge has a general upgrading effect on corporate decisional behaviour.
Conclusion 5 – Co-locate all Market Research projects and co-report results, also using external databases
By using the Dapresy Platform for corporate research projects a number of concrete valueadding propositions are brought to fruition:
- Co-location of all projects into one data base, from where corporate staff can easily find and further develop the results of each previous project.
- All project experience, in the form of questionnaires, report templates and work-flow, can be reused in subsequent projects. In addition to cost reductions this caters for process-driven, instead of human-resources-driven, research.
- Keeping pace with the growing number of Dapresy clients is the volume build-up of report-building competence amassed via earlier actors. New suppliers are an additional competence source as is also Dapresy’s own Service Bureau, in particular for peak-load reinforcements.
- The customer, and the customer only, owns the raw input data and the report definitions. This secures freedom of action vis-à-vis existing as well as previous and future suppliers.
- Project data originating from various different external suppliers can be co-processed and cross-tabulated, making internal benchmarks and total reports possible. Example: examine how Employee Indexes vary with variations in Sales Volumes and Customer Satisfaction.
Questions and Answers!
Does this cost a lot?
No, the price of Dapresy’s Platform is based on the principles of the Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) charging model. You do not pay for any system installation, only for the project you want the platform to execute. Projects costs start at 500€.
This is for large enterprises only, isn’t it? We doubt that we have the muscle to take this on.
Dapresy has been successful precisely because we build opportunities for all corporations, irrespective of size, to benefit from such Market Research processes and results that previously were only available to companies with an annual MR investment budget > 200 K€.
Sounds good – but we do we have the internal resources required to procure, implement and benefit from a Dapresy Platform project?
This is the situation for the majority of our clients. Therefore we have a Service Bureau that operates on a turnkey solution basis. In this mode we coordinate the contacts with your existing suppliers or help you find new providers to further increase your cost savings. Our Service Bureau has qualified experience in handling all kinds of Market Research implementations, from smaller surveys to global, multi-market projects.
Our collaboration with several capable consultancies goes back several years – do we really need the Dapresy Platform?
The prime Dapresy Platform advantage is the possibility to retain existing suppliers who, instead of charging you for report production, can concentrate on ”findings” and on uncovering value-adding conclusions.
We see Market Research as an industry under change where new positions are being taken. Consultancies are thus, to an increasing extent, focusing on value-adding work instead of data collection and report/presentation activities. Parallel to this, data collection actors forge ponderable offerings, targeted directly on end-users.
How does Dapresy save Customers’ money?
By:
- Increasing freedom of choice when it comes to finding and using additional subcontractors, resulting in increased competition = lower costs.
- Deploying modern techniques to automate reports that were previously produced “manually”.
- Increasing the reuse rate through a well defined process, storing all project properties according to a unique recycling model that also enables interproject reprocessing.
- Creating exceptionally clear interfaces vis-a-vis suppliers – to increase research transparency and at the same time give the supplier exact bidding information.
- Enabling – through our platform technology – process-driven workflow, thereby avoiding most of the typical research project traps.
How does Dapresy make sure that its customers are subcontractor independent?
By having all suppliers deliver raw data and report definitions into the customer’s own partition of our Platform. The client thus having full ownership and disposal rights gives him complete freedom when it comes to opening his Platform partition for new suppliers in order to replace or supplement existing subcontractors.
How does Dapresy ascertain that Market Research results are communicated throughout the organisation in a consistent way?
By storing all research data in one and the same place (typically by gradually adding new research data), this central location can e.g. be integrated with your corporate intranet to highlight the Market Research role in the corporation.
Can the client keep existing consultants in spite of using the Dapresy Platform?
Definitely. Dapresy trains consultants to be able to serve their clients on the Dapresy Platform. Several training packages are available. Some examples:
- Employee surveys
- Customer surveys
- Brand trackings
- Ad-Hoc measuring
- Library and template processes
- Benchmark and Reference Data Base building.
What about data quality assurance?
Our Platform has built-in quality assurance functions, ascertaining that nothing but correct data can be uploaded. In the case of a supplier e.g. trying to upload an erroneous file, lacking, say, certain questions or response alternatives, an error message is returned with the necessary correction action for subsequent reloading. Should non-structural data errors occur and be detected after-hand, a powerful ”rollback” function can restore the information in a matter of seconds, with consequential corrective impact on/to all reports/receivers involved.
Are MR procurement roles being changed?
Yes, we see how, in the Market Research Industry, a position change is emerging where end-users will find new suppliers. In this situation, we at Dapresy fill our ”Missing Link” role by securing that the new connections and meeting-places now coming into view will function in a seamless way, generating extreme benefits in terms of
- Getting more research for the money
- Promoting MR’s stature as an operational tool used in the day-to-day work
- Strengthening your company’s competitiveness by allowing you to quickly grasp market, customer and employee attitudes.
How are report data updated?
The [data] supplier uploads a file containing the latest data, whereupon the Dapresy Platform scans this file to make sure that structural data requirements are met. Finally, all to-bedistributed reports are updated with the new data. A manual intervention option can be used to make sure that report distribution can take place only after a manual check.
How is the Platform kept ”clean”?
By denying access for all flawed data before they enter the system. Should, in spite of this gate control function, incorrect data nevertheless slip through, a manual cleaning feature, using an administration interface, can be applied.
How difficult is it to administer the use of the Dapresy Platform?
Dapresy’s Platform is a Software-as-a-Service type of product, intended for users on normal IT literacy level. Depending on actual implementation size, you as a user will be fully conversant with the product after 2-8 hours of training. We tailor our tuition to the specific requirements of each installation.
How often is data uploaded onto the platform?
You yourself decide and instruct your supplier as to which uploading frequency to use. Typical intervals: anything between one day up to one month.
Dapresy gets major Bank/Finance projects
Information Reporter March 9th 2009Two Nordic Top 10 Bank/Finance corporations have entered into Service Level Agreements with Dapresy.
Under these Agreements, Dapresy’s Information Reporter product will be made available for in-house processing of Market Research Data collected from a number of different Research Data providers.
In-house operations are sustained by Dapresy’s Support department who will receive and upload research data from MR data providers, nominated by the respective clients. On the resulting information base, Information Reporter will enable decision-makers to design and retrieve at any time – on an individual and interactive basis – own reports and presentations, exactly fitting the particular decision situation at hand. A focus shift is thus made possible: from data collection and presentation chores into concentrating on making quick, high-quality decisions from a secure decision base.
In addition, considerable cost savings, as compared with earlier traditional processing structures, will be achieved.
